13 Days Ethiopia Safari

Day 1:

Arrive Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, then transfer to hotel, after check in you will visit historical sites in Addis Ababa including the National Museum, where we will view the 3.6 million year old remains of “Lucy”, You will also visit the Ethnological Museum at Addis Ababa University, Holy Trinity Cathedrals and Mount Entoto which rises up to an altitude of 3200 meters and offers the panoramic view of the city, overnight at Lobelia Hotel (Middle range) or Sapphire Addis Hotel .

Day 2

Early in the morning depart on a flight for Bahir Dar (07:00). After arrival, take a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit a selection of the monasteries hidden on the islands and shores of this sacred lake.  Visit the Zege Penninsula and the monasteries of Azuwa Maryam and Ura Kidane Mehret and Visit outlet of the Blue Nile River.  In the afternoon, relax at your hotel Free time, overnight in Bahir Dar Jacaranda Hotel (Middle range) or Kuriftu Resort & Spa or Grand resort & Spa. (High End)

Day 3

After breakfast continue north to Gondar.  The four-hour drive will take you through rural villages, offering wonderful insight into the Amhara culture.  After briefly settling in your hotel, explore the sites of Gondar, including a visit to the Royal Enclosure, with six castles and several other buildings.  Additionally, visit Fasilidas’s Pool, still used for Timket celebrations today and the Debre Birhan Selassie church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia.  Overnight at AG international Hotel (Middle range) or Teya Hotel or Goha Hotel (High End)

Day 4

Early morning flight to Axum. Today will be a full day visiting the sites of Axum, including the famous obelisks and the archeological museum, the Queen of Sheba’s Bath, Ezana’s enscription, King Kaleb’s tomb, King Bazen’s tomb, and the Queen of Sheba’s Palace.  You can also visit the St. Mary of Zion church, where the Ark of the Covenant is kept.  Men only are allowed to enter the old church.  Unfortunately, no one is allowed to enter the chapel where the Ark is kept, overnight in Axum Brana Hotel (Middle range) or Yared Zema hotel (High End)

Day 5

Depart on a morning flight to Lalibela, the most famous of all of the Ethiopian historical sites.  After lunch, start your tour of the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, visiting the Northwestern Cluster of churches – Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel, Bet Mikael & Bet Golgotha (entry not permitted for women), overnight at  Lal Hotel (Middle range)  Mountain view or Panoramic View Hotel (High End)

Day 6

In the morning take a trip to visit the church of Yimrehanne Kristos.  The most popular of the churches outside of Lalibela, after the visit, return to Lalibela for lunch and, in the afternoon, visit the Southeastern Cluster of churches – Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos.  Finally, you will visit the most famous of all the churches – Bet Giyorgis, overnight at Lal Hotel (Middle range) Mountain View or Panoramic View Hotel (High End)

Day 8

Drive from Addis to Arbaminch Early in the morning, depart south from Addis Ababa for a full day’s drive to Arba Minch via Butajira, on the way visit Tiya stele classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. These steles are believed to have been erected between the 12th and 14th centuries. Then continue driving enjoy the fresh air and the view over lakes Abaya and Cham. Overnight Swaines or Paradise

Day 9

Drive from Arba Minch to Jinka

In the morning takes a boat trip on Lake Chamo to visit the “crocodile market”, and the local hippos.  Afterwards, depart from Arba Minch to Jinka.  Also we have a chance to visit the tribes of the Banna and Tsamay after short break at Weyto proceed to Jinka, Overnight Orit hotel 

Day 10

drive from Jinka to Mursi then back to Jinka the drive to Turmi

Early in the morning we will drive to the village of Mursi and around mid-day we will drive to Key Afer, Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where you will see the Benna and Tsemai tribes trading goods.  Attending to this market will allow you to compare the dressing patterns, ornamentation techniques etc. of the various tribes in the area. Afternoon, you will be proceeding to Turmi, overnight in Turmi Buska Lodge.

Day 11

Drive from turmi to Omorate

In the morning, take a day trip to Omorate to visit the Dassenech tribe.  Here you will cross the Omo River by local boat and enter a Dassenech village.  Afterwards, return to Turmi then drive to Dimeka (Saturday is market day) for a visit to a local Market. Late in the afternoon you will visit Hamer Village. If there is jumping of the Bulls traditional Hamer coming-of-age ceremony, which will be visited, overnight in Turmi Buska Lodge.


Day 12

drive from Turmi to Arbaminch

After breakfast, depart from Turmi to Arba Minch via Key Afar and Konso.  On the way you will visit Konso people village (Konso is classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site).  The Konso people are known for their wooden statues, known as wakas, which are erected in honor of dead heroes as well as their innovative agricultural terracing.  After the visit, proceed driving to Arba Minch, Overnight in Arba Minch Ezana Hotel.

Day 13

In the morning after breakfast, drive to Dorze, set in the highlands above Arba Minch.  The Dorze people are known for their tall beehive-like houses and their fine cotton weaving.  You will visit the village and learn about the daily lives of these industrious people.  Then drive to Addis Ababa,
